Engine Control Unit, Remove and Install  

Notice: 

In LHD vehicles, the engine control unit is on the right in the plenum chamber. Illus. F 3922 shows the removal and installation for a RHD vehicle.  

Object Number: 616191  Size: DEFAULT  Remove, Disconnect   

Remove water deflector - see operation "Water Deflector, Remove and Install" in group "A".  

Disconnect engine control unit cover (1) and lay to side.  

Release striker (2) of engine control unit wiring harness plug in direction of arrow and disconnect wiring harness plug from engine control unit - lay aside cover with cable bundle.  

Unscrew fastening nuts (3) and remove engine control unit with engine control unit bracket upwards. Detach engine control unit from engine control unit bracket.

After replacing the engine control unit, the vehicle data must be programmed into the new engine control unit using the TECH 2 - see corresponding operation in the Checking Procedures.  

Object Number: 616192  Size: DEFAULT  Install, Connect   

Attach engine control unit to engine control unit bracket, insert into radiator tank and screw tight. Attach wiring harness plug to engine control unit and secure with striker - ensure correct plug contacts and correct seating.  

Secure cover hood for engine control unit.  

Install water deflector - see operation "Water Deflector, Remove and Install" in group "A".
