Injectors, Remove and Install (X 18 XE1)  

  Remove, Disconnect   

Remove engine cover from cylinder head cover.   Disconnect wiring harness plug (1) from hot film mass air flow meter.   Detach air intake manifold (2) together with hot film mass air flow meter from upper part of air cleaner housing and from throttle body.   Remove engine vent hoses (3) from cylinder head cover and from throttle body.   Detach or disconnect all wiring connections which are connected to plug strip or cable bundle (4) and place out of way - note cable routing.

  Important!   

Fuel escapes - observe safety measures and national legislation. Connect Fuel Pressure Gauge KM-J-34730-91 (1) to test connection (arrow) on fuel distributor pipe. Reduce fuel pressure by opening valve on fuel pressure gauge - collect escaping fuel in suitable container.  

  Remove, Disconnect   

Detach fuel feed line (2) from fuel distributor pipe.

  Remove, Disconnect   

Remove plug strip fastening bolt (1) from engine transport shackle.   Detach ground cable (2) from intake manifold.

  Remove, Disconnect   

Unscrew fastening bolts (arrows) for fuel distributor pipe and carefully pull fuel distributor pipe together with plug strip and injection valves out of inlet manifold.   Remove spring clip (2) for relevant injector.   Release wiring harness plug (1) for relevant injector and remove injector from fuel distributor pipe.     Install, Connect    Attach new seal rings to injectors and lightly coat them with clean engine oil.   Insert injector(s) into fuel distributor pipe and connect wiring harness plug - plug must engage audibly.   Insert spring clip(s) and fasten injector(s) to fuel distributor pipe - ensure correct seating.   Carefully insert fuel distributor pipe together with plug strip and injectors into intake manifold and secure to intake manifold.

  Install, Connect   

Secure ground cable to inlet manifold.  

Bolt plug strip onto engine transport shackle.  

Connect or attach all cable connections connected to the plug strip cable bundle.  

Attach fuel feed lines to fuel distributor pipe - tightening torque 15 Nm / 11 lbf. ft.  

Attach engine vent hoses.  

Notice: 

Before assembling components of the intake system (hoses, connections, etc.), they must be cleaned of any possible contamination (grease, oil, etc.). When tightening the hose clamps, be sure to observe exactly the tightening torque of 3.5 Nm / 2.6 lbf. ft.  

  Important!   

It is only ensured that the intake system is free of leaks, thus ensuring operational safety of the engine, if the hose clamps are tightened correctly to the prescribed tightening torque.  

  Install, Connect   

Attach air intake manifold together with hot film mass air flow meter to upper part of air cleaner housing and to throttle body.  

Connect wiring harness plug to hot film mass air flow meter.  

Install engine cover on cylinder head cover.
