Upper Part of Oil Pan, Remove and Install (20 NEJ)  

  Remove, Disconnect   

Remove lower part of oil pan - see operation "Lower Part of Oil Pan, Remove and Install (20 NEJ)".   Remove lower wheel well panelling.   Version with MT: remove right axle shaft (1) - see operation "Axle Shafts, Remove and Install" in group "E".   Remove bearing flange (2) from transmission - collect escaping transmission fluid.   For version with automatic transmission: remove oil filter with KM-726-A - collect escaping engine oil.   Remove fastening bolts (3) from upper part of the oil pan on transmission housing. Detach upper part of oil pan (4) from cylinder block and oil pump.     Clean    Remove gasket remnants and clean sealing surfaces.

  Install, Connect   

Apply a bead of adhesive sealing compound (black) to joints (arrows) of oil pump and rear crankshaft bearing cap.   Attach upper part of oil pan (1) with new fastening bolts and new gasket to cylinder block, oil pump and transmission housing.     Important!    To ensure a gap-free seating of upper part of oil pan (1) on the transmission casing, observe the following assembly sequence:     1  Loosely tighten all fastening bolts   2  Tighten fastening bolts of upper part of oil pan on cylinder block and oil pump housing - tightening torque 20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft. 1)  ,   3  Tighten fastening bolts of upper part of oil pan on transmission casing - tightening torque (M8) 20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft. or (M10) 40 Nm / 30 lbf. ft.

1)  Re-cut thread before re-use and insert with screw locking compound (red). The installation time including torque check is max. 5 min.  

  Install, Connect   

For version with manual transmission: attach bearing flange with new seal ring to transmission - tightening torque 25 Nm / 18 lbf. ft.  

Install right axle shaft - see operation "Axle Shafts, Remove and Install" in group "E".  

Version with AT: install fluid filter - 15 Nm / 11 lbf. ft.  

Install lower part of oil pan - see operation "Lower Part of Oil Pan, Remove and Install (20 NEJ)".  

Install lower wheel well panelling.  

  Inspect   

Version with MT: check transmission fluid level - see operation "Transmission Fluid, Top up and Correct" in group "K".
