Complaint: Chafing Toothed belt wears on edge.
Cause: Lateral abrasion of the toothed belt.
Production Solution: As of engine no.: 20 E 58194, 17.September 1998, Szentgotthardt and 02 JF 1 180, 02. October 1998, Bochum the incrementation plate and toothed pulley drive has been changed in the production. As of engine no.:02HR1040, 12. May 1998,Bochum and engine no: 20D22827, 23. May 1998, Szentgotthard the tensioner has been changed in the production.

Remedy: In case of complaint, install changed toothed pulley drive, incremental plate tensioner and toothed belt.
Work process: Remove the toothed belt and tensioner -see Service-Instruction category "J" of the affected carline. Additionally replace the toothed pulley drive and the incremental plate.
