Power Sounder (only Vauxhall)

Arm Power Sounder

The Power Sounder is automatically armed 15 seconds after the ignition is switched off.

Trigger alarm

If the battery is then disconnected or the alarm is triggered by the ATWS control unit, the Power Sounder sounds an acoustic alarm for the alarm period of approx. 30 seconds.

The alarm can be triggered three times by means of the internal rechargeable batteries; the internal batteries are then discharged.

The discharged batteries are charged via terminal 15. The charging process lasts approx. 8 hours.

Disarm Power Sounder

There are four different ways to disarm:

1

To allow Service operations on the vehicle, the Power Sounder must be de-activated as
follows: If the vehicle battery is disconnected within 15 seconds after switching off the
ignition, the alarm is not triggered. The Power Sounder remains de-activated until the
vehicle battery is re-connected.

2

If the alarm was triggered by a signal from the ATWS control unit or by disconnecting the
vehicle battery, automatic resetting occurs following the alarm period of 30 seconds. The
Power Sounder remains alarm-ready, however.

3

The acoustic alarm is cancelled if the alarm was triggered by a signal from the ATWS control
unit and the signal tapered off again prior to the end of the alarm period (approx. 30 seconds).

4

By switching on the ignition.

The Power Sounder is an alarm siren with integrated batteries and charging device, and is installed on all Vauxhall vehicles in addition to the ATWS horn.

Note:

A horn is not installed on some vehicles in the United Kingdom for MY '96, MY '97, due to the national regulations.

The Power Sounder monitors its input and supply lines and automatically triggers an acoustic alarm in the event of unauthorised manipulation of the vehicle electrical system.

Functional description

In the normal mode, voltage is supplied via the vehicle battery. The internal batteries are not used and are charged via the vehicle battery.

The auto-supply mode is activated whenever the battery voltage drops below 9 V or the vehicle battery is disconnected. In this case, the voltage is supplied by the integrated batteries.
