Oil Pan: Service and Repair
Oil pan, removing and installing

Hand drill with plastic brush

D 176 404 A2 Silicone sealant

Oil pan, removing

Remove center left and right insulation trays:
-
Drain engine oil.

Unscrew oil pan.

Loosen oil pan with light blows from a rubber hammer if necessary.

Remove sealant residue on cylinder block with a flat scraper.

Remove sealant residue on the oil pan with a rotating brush e.g. a hand drill with a plastic brush (wear protective glasses).

Clean sealing surfaces must be free of oil and grease.
Installing
Note:

Note the "use by date" on the sealant container.

Oil pan must be installed within 5 minutes after applying the silicone sealing compound.

Cut-off tube nozzle at forward mark (approximately 3 mm diameter).

Apply silicone sealing compound as shown to a clean oil pan sealing surface.

Bead must be: 2 to 3 mm thick.
^
Bead must run on the inside of bolt holes (arrows).
Note: The sealing bead must not be thicker, or excess compound will enter the oil pan and may block the suction pipe strainer.
