Exhaust Manifold: Service and Repair
Turbocharger

Turbocharger

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Torque wrench (5-50 Nm) (VAG 1331)

‹› Spring type clip pliers (VAS 5024A)

‹› Tensioning strap (T10038)

CAUTION!
If mechanical damage is found on the turbocharger, for example, a destroyed compression wheel, it is not enough to just replace the
turbocharger. Perform the following steps to prevent subsequent damage.

‹› Clean all oil lines.

‹› Change the engine oil and filter.

‹› Check the air filter housing, the air filter element and the intake hoses for contamination.

‹› Check entire charge air circuit and cooler for contamination.

If contaminants are found in the charge air circuit, the circuit must be cleaned and the cooler replaced if necessary.

Removing

Remove the engine cover/upper air filter housing. Refer to --> [ Engine Cover/Upper Air Filter Housing ] See: Engine/Tune-up and Engine

Drain the cooling system. Refer to --> [ Draining and Filling ] See: Cooling System/Service and Repair/Cooling System, Draining and Filling.

Remove the front part of the right wheel housing liner. Remove bolts -  1 through 3 - to do so.

-

Remove the right charge air hose - arrow - from the charge air cooler.
