Adjusting V belt tension for alternator

(Clamping bracket with rack and tensioning nut)

  • ‒ → Loosen all fastening screws for clamping bracket -A- and alternator at least one turn.

Note:

The alternator must move freely after loosening the screws (alternator's own weight must cause it to fall to the side).

  • ‒ Tension V belt by turning nut -B- with torque wrench 8 Nm and tighten screw of tensioning nut to 35 Nm.
  • ‒ Tighten alternator fastening screws at mount ot 35 Nm and clamping bracket at suspension eye/cylinder block to 20 Nm.
  • ‒ Start engine.
  • ‒ Allow engine to idle for approx. 5 minutes.
  • ‒ Switch off engine.
  • ‒ Tension V belt again with torque wrench 8 Nm

Note:

Particularly suited to adjustment is the torque wrench V.A.G 1410 in conjunction with the 22 mm ring spanner for torque wrench V.A.G 1410/2.
