Removing and installing cooling system components
Repair air deflector installation

For golf and Jetta, an adjustable replacement air deflector is supplied in place of the production version for the left side. On the right side the production deflector is still used.

Note:

The perforated front section is only required on the Jetta. This should be broken of when used on the golf.

Installing replacement air deflector:

  • ◆ Radiator removed
  • ‒ Insert deflector - 161 121 283 C - on the left in the appropriate slots in radiator grille and cross member.
  • ‒ Align deflector vertically.
  • ‒ Mark off and drill a 5.0 mm dia. hole in the lock carrier plate.
  • ‒ Attach deflector to lock carrier plate with speed nut B 4.2x16 (N 015 448 1) and tapping screw B 4.2x13 (N 013 966 12).
  • ‒ Insert radiator at bottom and align deflector so that the end contacts the water tank.
  • ‒ Tighten wing nuts on deflector and secure radiator.
