Installing cylinder head
  • ◆ Crankshaft is not at TDC

  • ‒ → To centralise head, screw guide studs from 3070 into threaded bolt holes 8 and 10
  • ‒ Place cilinder head gasket on block
  • ‒ Fit cylinder head, install remaining 8 bolts and tighten by hand
  • ‒ Remove the guide studs using tools from 3070 and replace with cylinder head bolts.

Note:

On engines equipped with centralising pins, centralising with guide bolts from 3070 is not necessary.

  • ‒ Tighten cylinder head bolts in three stages. See illustration for tightening sequence.
Important!
Socket head cylinder bolts should be replaced by multiple tooth bolts.

Tightening torque: Cold engine

1st stage

=

40 Nm

2nd stage

=

60 Nm

3rd stage

=

1/2 turn (180°)

In a single movement with rigid spanner (2 x 90°) is permissible.

Notes

  • ◆ → Loosening cylinder head bolts: reverse sequence.
  • ◆ Retightening of cylinder head bolts after repair is not necesary.
  • ◆ Do not re-use engine coolant (renew).
