  Note
t  Careful sealing, absolute cleanliness and precise adjustment are prerequisites for long wheel bearing service life. Therefore note the following points:
t  Install oil seal and grease cap as shown.
t  Only reinstall clean bearings, do not wash bearings.
t  Adjust wheel bearing play carefully.
1 - Stub axle
q   Straightening operations are not permitted.
q   Modification: Stub axle modified in vehicles with ABS as of 08.87 → Fig..
2 - Cover plate
3 - Dished spring
q   Larger contact surface (concave side) faces towards cover plate.
4 - Hexagon bolt, 60 Nm
5 - Oil seal
q   Fill between sealing lips with grease -G 052 128 A1-.
q   Driving in → Fig.
6 - Inner wheel bearing
q   Drive out outer race with copper drift.
q   Pressing in → Fig..
7 - Outer wheel bearing
q   Drive out outer race with copper drift.
q   Pressing in → Fig..
8 - Thrust plate
9 - Hexagon nut
q   Adjusting wheel bearing play → Fig..
10 - Locking ring
11 - Split pin
q   Renew.
12 - Grease cap
q   Pressing off → Fig. and → Fig..
q   Driving in → Fig.
13 - Brake disc
q   Fill hub with lithium grease -G 052 150 A2- before installing.
14 - Bolt, 65 Nm
15 - Brake carrier
16 - Protective cap
17 - Guide pin
18 - Brake pads
19 - Self-locking hexagon bolt, 35 Nm
q   Renew.
20 - Brake caliper
q   Repairing → Chapter.
21 - Bracket for brake hose
22 - Spring clip
23 - Handbrake cable
q   Adjusting handbrake → Chapter and → Chapter.
24 - Axle beam
25 - Wheel bolt, 110 Nm

   
Pressing off grease cap
–  First loosen grease cap from seat by tapping lightly on the claw.

Driving grease cap in
Damaged (dented) grease caps allow ingress of moisture. That is why it is essential to use the tool shown in the illustration.
  Note
Always renew damaged (dented) grease caps.

Adjusting wheel bearing play
  Note
Using a screwdriver it must be possible to move the thrust washer by finger pressure (without leverage).
–  Secure with locking ring and new split pin.
