Assembling > < Dismantling and assembling planetary gearbox

Dismantling
–  Seal ATF cooler connections.
–  Drain ATF. ATF can be extracted from torque converter by using probe -V.A.G 1358 A/1- and extracting unit -V.A.G 1358 A-.
–  Remove torque converter.
   
–  Secure gearbox to assembly stand with bolts -1- and -2-.

–  Remove gearbox housing cover with gasket -arrow-.
–  Remove ATF pan.
–  Remove ATF strainer.

–  Remove valve body → Chapter.

–  Pull out plug for -B1-.
–  Remove ATF pump by doing the following:
–  Remove ATF pump bolts.

–  Screw bolts -A- (M8) into tapped holes of ATF pump.
–  Press ATF pump away from gearbox housing by evenly turning bolts -A- and remove.

–  Take out all clutches with support tube, -B2- plates, springs and spring caps together.

–  Insert screwdriver through holes of “large input shaft” and “large sun gear” to loosen and tighten “bolt for small input shaft”.

–  Loosen bolt -arrow- for “small input shaft”.
–  Remove bolt, washer and shim for “small input shaft”.
Needle thrust bearing for planet carrier remains in gearbox input gear.
–  Pull out small input shaft.

–  Pull out large input shaft -arrow-.

–  Pull out large sun gear -arrow-.
  N37-0012
–  Remove retaining ring for support tube -a- and retaining ring for freewheel -b-.
–  Take freewheel out of gearbox housing by pulling on freewheel retaining wedge -arrow- with pliers.

–  Pull out planet carrier with dished washer.
–  Remove plates for reverse gear brake -B1-.

t  It is not necessary to remove input gear in order to dismantle planetary gearbox. Removing and installing input gear → Chapter.
