Removing and installing injectors

Special tools, testers, measuring instruments and auxiliary items required

  • ◆ Fitting tool 3277 A

Removing

  • ‒ Remove spark plug connectors with tool 3277 A.
  • ‒ → Remove ignition cable ducts -1- and -2-.
  • ‒ Pull crankcase breather valve off cylinder head cover and breather hose to activated charcoal filter solenoid valve 1 off intake manifold upper part.
  • ‒ Remove intake hose from air mass meter to throttle valve housing or to throttle valve control part.
  • ‒ Pull connectors off throttle valve potentiometer or throttle valve control part, heater element, idling stabilization valve and intake manifold temperature sender.
  • ‒ Detach accelerator cable at throttle valve housing or throttle valve control part and support bracket (do not remove retainer).
  • ‒ Open and close the expansion tank cap, to release cooling system pressure.
  • ‒ Pull coolant hoses off throttle valve housing and clamp the hose ends.
  • ‒ Pull vacuum hose off fuel pressure regulator and brake servo.
  • ‒ Unscrew intake manifold support to cylinder head.
  • ‒ Now unscrew intake manifold upper part from intake manifold lower part and remove.

Note:

Seal the intake channels in the intake manifold lower part and/or in cylinder head with clean cloths.

  • ‒ Remove wiring to injectors from cable duct.
  • ‒ Then remove injectors with fuel rail.

Note:

If the injectors are seated too securely in the inlet manifold lower part carefully lever out, using a 16 mm OJ spanner under valve body.

Installing

Install in reverse order.

Note:

When installing injectors ensure that O-rings are not/will not be damaged. To facilitate installation, moisten O-rings lightly with oil.
