Removing and installing hydraulic unit (right-hand drive)

Removing

  • ‒ Disconnect battery earth strap => Repair instructions for ABS or ABS/EDL, Page 45-2
  • ‒ Clean outside of hydraulic unit => Repair instructions for ABS or ABS/EDL, Page 45-2
  • ‒ Separate all electrical connections on hydraulic unit.
  • ‒ Draw off as much brake fluid as possible from the brake fluid reservoir using a suction bottle.
  • ‒ Remove hydraulic unit supply pipes.
  • ‒ Disconnect brake pipes from hydraulic unit and seal threaded holes with plugs from repair kit Part No.1H0 698 311.
  • ‒ Remove nuts securing hydraulic unit.
  • ‒ Remove hydraulic unit from bracket.

Installing

  • ‒ Install in reverse order.
    • ‒ Connect brake pipes to tandem brake master cylinder and hydraulic unit .
    • ‒ Connect supply pipes to hydraulic unit and brake fluid reservoir , Fig.3
    • ‒ Bleed brake system .

Tightening torques:

Brake pipes to ABS unit

 

Thread M 10 X 1

15 Nm

Thread M 12 X 1

15 Nm

Notes:

  • ◆ Hydraulic units supplied as replacement parts are already filled with hydraulic fluid and bled.
  • ◆ Only remove sealing plugs on the hydraulic unit when the relevant pipe is going to be fitted.
Attention!
If the sealing plugs are removed to early brake fluid can escape, it is then no longer guaranteed that the unit is sufficiently filled or adequately bled.
  • ◆ Brake pipes and supply pipes must not be mixed-up when connected.
