Servicing front suspension (Plus running gear)
Modified suspension strut from 06.93, vehicles with plus running gear

From 06.93 the coil springs on the front axle have been modified to lateral force compensating coil springs. The introduction will be gradual.

The lateral force compensating springs reduce the friction on the piston rod in the piston rod guide of the suspension strut. This improves the response of the shock absorbers and therefore the ride comfort.

In conjunction with this the upper spring plate and the shock absorber with lower spring plate have had to be modified.

In cases of repair (e.g. accident) a mixed installation; old suspension strut e.g. left, new suspension strut right, is not permitted. The allocation of the upper spring plate must be adhered to

=> Parts catalogue

Vehicles which were built before 06.93, can be retrofitted with the suspension strut from 06.93. However all the parts specific to the respective suspension strut must be used.

Vehicles with modified suspension struts from 06.93 stand slightly higher than the previous vehicles with plus running gear.

Recognizing part number on coil spring

If the colour code is not recognizable then the spring part number can be determined from a code stamped on the upper spring coil

1. Example: VW/Audi Logo 191 4 S

191 = Type

4 = Middle group of Part No. (411)

S = Index according to the nine digit Part No.

Complete Part No. is: 191 411 105 S

2. Example: VW/Audi Logo 191 45 AB

191 = Type

4 = Middle group of Part No. (411)

5 = Last number of the number group 105

AB = Index according to the nine digit Part No.

Complete Part No. is: 191 411 105 AB
