Removing and installing drive shaft with triple-roller joint

On vehicles with 4-Cyl. engine and automatic gearbox drive shafts with triple-roller joints are being installed. The introduction of these joints will be gradual. These joints have three rollers instead of the six balls, the rollers are 120° offset on a triangular star.

Removing right-hand drive shaft

Removing and installing is unchanged compared to the previous drive shaft (on vehicles with air deflector plate on wishbone, this must be removed).

Removing left-hand drive shaft

  • ‒ → Fit support device.

  • ‒ → Remove bolt (arrow) for rear gearbox mounting.

  • ‒ → Remove bolt (arrow) for front engine mounting.
  • ‒ Lift engine/gearbox assembly.
  • ‒ Loosen drive shaft hexagon nut with vehicle standing on its wheels.

  • ‒ Disconnect drive shaft from gearbox drive flange.
  • ‒ Mark installation position of bolts.
  • ‒ → Remove bolts (arrow A).
  • ‒ Loosen bolt (arrow B).

  • ‒ → Swing wheel outwards (if necessary place wood or similar between suspension strut and wheel housing).

  • ‒ → Tilt engine and gearbox forwards with supporting device 3300 A.

Installing

Install in reverse order.
