Running gear self-diagnosis for ABS
Self-diagnosis function, ITT Mark 04
Safety precautions and fundamental points regarding fault finding
  • ◆ The ABS is a vehicle safety system; the appropriate knowledge is necessary to work on the system.
  • ◆ Information on the construction and function of the anti-locking brake system is contained in self study programmes No. 81, 117 and 140.
  • ◆ Do not drive with the connector disconnected from the ABS control unit (J104).
  • ◆ In order to check complaints and to be able to carry out pin-pointed fault finding, the fault memory must be interrogated before commencing work on the ABS system.
  • ◆ Do not separate connectors when the ignition is switched on.
  • ◆ Observe the appropriate instructions regarding the handling of brake fluid.

  • ◆ ABS faults are indicated by the the ABS warning lamp lighting up; certain faults will not be recognised at speeds below 40 km/h (carry out road test).
  • ◆ If the ABS warning lamp (K47) does not light up, but the brake system is not functioning correctly then the fault must be sought in the conventional braking system (e.g. leaks at brake cylinder).
  • ◆ Information on eliminating current defects
