Prerequisites:

• ● Voltage supply OK.
• ● Diagnosis wire between dash panel insert and VAS 5051 OK.
• ● Valid current flow diagram and Workshop Manual available.

Malfunction:

• ◆ Engine does not start

When starting the engine starts and stalls after approx. 1 second.

Note:

If the display is not as per the display in the work sequence:

=> Operating instructions for Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051.

• ‒ Connect Vehicle diagnosis, Testing and Information system VAS 5051, select operating mode "Vehicle self-diagnosis", switch on ignition and select "01 - Engine Electronics".

→ Indicated on display:

• ‒ Press arrow button -1- on display.
• ‒ Interrogate fault memory .

Possible cause:

• ◆ Fault code 17978 -"Engine control unit blocked" is stored in fault memory, this means:

Note:

The immobilizer control unit has not released the engine control unit!

• ‒ Erase fault memory and end output => page 01-15 .
• ‒ Press "25 - Immobilizer" on display -arrow-.
• ‒ Read fault memory (function 02) and evaluate using fault table and if necessary rectify.

• ‒ After completing repair and adapting immobilizer components it is absolutely necessary that the engine control unit fault memory is interrogated and if necessary the fault memory erased.
  

• ◆ Fault code 17978 "Engine control unit blocked" is not stored in fault memory, this means:

Note:

There is no malfunction of the electronic immobilizer!

• ‒ Carry out fault finding according to instructions in engine workshop manual.

Malfunction:

• ◆ Key adaption faulty

Fault code 01179 "Key programming faulty" is stored in fault memory of immobilizer control unit.

• ‒ Adapt all ignition keys to correct PIN => page 01-33 .
