Renewing crankshaft oil seal, vibration damper end
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Puller hooks -T20143-
t  Insert tool -T10215-
t  Counterhold -T10069-
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1601-
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1332-

Removing
–  Remove poly V-belt → Chapter.
   
–  Remove vibration damper. To do this, lock vibration damper using counterhold tool -T10069-.

–  Fit puller hooks -T20143/1- behind sealing lip of oil seal as shown in illustration.
–  Support puller hook -T20143/1- on sealing flange and lever oil seal out in -direction of arrow-.
Installing

In place of oil seal with inner circular spring -1-, a PTFE oil seal is being gradually introduced (teflon) -2-. This oil seal has a wider sealing lip. PTFE oil seals are installed free of oil and grease. If a PTFE oil seal was installed, only such an oil seal must be used as a replacement part!
–  Remove oil residue from crankshaft journal using clean cloth.
  A15-0578
–  Slide guide sleeve -T10215/1--1- at front onto crankshaft journal.
–  Now slide oil seal -2- carefully over guide sleeve as far as possible.
–  Press oil seal in to stop with fitting sleeve -T10215/2--3-. To do this, use old vibration damper securing bolt -4-.
  Note
t  Renew securing bolt for vibration damper.
t  Tighten securing bolt using torque wrench -V.A.G 1601-.
  N13-10101
–  Install vibration damper and lock with counterhold tool -T10069-.
–  Tighten new securing bolt to 100 Nm and tighten 1/4 turn (90°) further.
–  Install poly V-belt → Chapter.
