q	During production, front and rear silencers are installed as a single component. In repair cases, the front exhaust pipe and rear silencer are supplied individually with a double clamp for connecting together.

Special tools and workshop equipment required

t	e.g. pneumatic sabre saw -V.A.G 1523A-

Procedure

–	Separate exhaust pipe at right angles at separating point -arrow 2-.

–	Position double clamp -4- (repair solution) between side markings -arrow 1- and -arrow 3- when installing. Torque setting: 40 Nm.

Aligning front silencer free of stress

–	The mounting pins on the exhaust pipe must run parallel to the tunnel bridge (dimension -x- equal on left and right).

Installation position of double clamp

–	Position double clamp approx. 5 mm away from mark -A-.

Note

Mark -A- is valid for vehicles with manual and automatic gearboxes.

Installation position of mounting

–	Angled side on mounting base -arrow- faces forwards.
