   Start                     
                           
                
                          
 
–  Shift selector lever to “P”.
–  Switch off ignition.
–  Pull out ignition key.
 Faulty selector mechanism or
steering lock.
–  Renew defective parts.

 Can selector lever be shifted out of “P” with button pressed?yesIs locking cable not adjusted correctly?yes
–  Correct adjustment → Chapter.
 
           
                          
     no                    
                          
 
–  Depress brake pedal.
–  Insert ignition key and switch on ignition.
–  Shift selector lever to “P”.
            
                          
 Can selector lever be shifted out of “P” with button pressed?no           
                          
     yes                    
                          
 
–  It must be possible to move selector lever into “R, N, D, 3, 2, or 1”
            
                          
 Can ignition key be withdrawn?yesno    
                        
 no
–  Depress brake pedal.
–  Shift selector lever to “P”.
The ignition key can be removed and the button on the selector lever is blocked in “P” 
                           
                      yes     
                           
                  → Ignition key withdrawal lock OK.
