Securing engine to assembly stand
Securing engine to assembly stand
When working on engine, secure it with engine and gearbox support -VW 540- and engine and gearbox support supplement -VW 540/1 B- to support clamp -VW 313- of the assembly stand.
Procedure
–  Unbolt gearbox.
Vehicles with automatic gearbox
–  Secure torque converter against „falling out“ after separating engine from gearbox.
Continuation for all vehicles
   
–  Attach lifting tackle -2024 A- as follows and lift from engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1206- using workshop crane -VAS 6100- or workshop crane -V.A.G 1383 A-.
Belt pulley end: 3rd hole in hook rail at position 2
Flywheel end: 3rd hole in hook rail at position 8
  WARNING
The hooks and locating pins must be secured with locking pins.
t  The positions marked 1…4 on the bar must be towards the belt pulley end.
t  The holes in the hook rails are counted up from the hook.
–  Secure engine to support clamp -VW 540- using engine and gearbox bracket -VW 540/1 B- and engine and gearbox supplementary set -VW 313-. Dowel sleeves must be removed.

–  For lower left securing point -arrow 1-, use a commercially available M12×160 bolt with a tensile strength of 8.8. The free hole -arrow 2- is used to locate the clutch counterhold -VW 558- or counterhold -3386- when loosening and tightening the flywheel or the drive plate.
