Checking engine speed sender -G28-
The engine speed sender -G28- signal cannot be used further in its direct form; therefore it is processed by the engine control unit for further consumers. The signal is required, by the automatic gearbox control unit, etc. to calculate shifting points and by the rev. counter in the dash panel.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Adapter cable, 121-pin -V.A.G 1598/31-
t  Auxiliary measuring set -V.A.G 1594C-
t  Hand multimeter -V.A.G 1526C- or multimeter -V.A.G 1715-
t  Current flow diagram
Test procedure
   
–  Connect adapter cable, 121-pin -V.A.G 1598/31- to control unit wiring harness.
–  Check for open circuit in wiring between dash panel insert and contact 27 of adapter cable, 121-pin -V.A.G 1598/31- using current flow diagram → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations.
