Welding and straightening on axle beam and stub axle is not permissible. |

q | Stub axle contact surfaces and threaded holes are to be free of paint and dirt. |
2 - | Spring plate |

q | Check bottom spring plate for damage. |
3 - | Coil spring |
q | Allocation → Genuine parts catalogue. |
4 - | Spring seat |
5 - | Hexagon bolt |
q | 30 Nm and turn 90° further. |
q | Renew each time after removing. |
If the thread of the welded nut is damaged, the thread can be repaired with a Heli-coil thread insert. |

6 - | Shock absorber |
Functional check → Item. |
7 - | Hexagon bolt |
q | 40 Nm and turn 90° further. |
q | Renew each time after removing. |
8 - | Hexagon nut |
q | Renew each time after removing. |
q | The axle beam must be in the middle position when nut is tightened. |
Volkswagen recommends loading the rear of the vehicle with the weight of one person when nut is tightened. |
9 - | Allen bolt, 8 Nm |
10 - | Speed sensor |
11 - | Stub axle |
q | Straightening operations are not permitted. |
q | Recutting the thread is not permitted. |

13 - | Cross-head screw, 4 Nm |

15 - | Grease cap |
q | Renew each time after removing. |
q | Pressing off and driving in → Chapter. |
A proper seal can be achieved only by installing a new grease cap. |
16 - | Self-locking 12-point nut, 175 Nm |
q | Renew each time after removing. |
17 - | Wheel hub with wheel bearing |
q | Renew each time after removing. |
The wheel bearing and wheel hub are installed together in a housing. |
This wheel bearing/hub unit is maintenance-free and has zero play. Adjustments and repairs are not possible! |
18 - | Hexagon bolt, 60 Nm |
q | Renew each time after removing. |
19 - | Splash plate |
20 - | Retainer for handbrake cable |
21 - | Handbrake cable |
22 - | Hexagon bolt, 75 Nm |
q | Renew each time after removing. |
q | If possible, do not loosen when removing the rear axle. |

23 - | Self-locking hexagon nut, 80 Nm |
q | Renew each time after removing. |
q | When nut is tightened, axle beam must be in the horizontal position (unladen vehicle state). |
24 - | Hexagon bolt |
q | Renew each time after removing. |
25 - | Mounting bracket for rear axle |
q | After installation, check total toe setting of rear axle and align if necessary. |
q | If possible, do not loosen when removing the rear axle. |
26 - | Hydraulic bonded rubber bush |
Feature distinguishing this from the bonded rubber bush → Item. The hydraulic bonded rubber bush has a bead -arrow- facing the outer side of the vehicle. |
The bush must be renewed if leaking. |
