Dismantling and assembling flange shaft > < Installing

Renewing oil seal for right flange shaft - all-wheel drive
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Puller -T10037-
t  Thrust piece -T10049-
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331-
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1332-
t  Hexagon key -V.A.G 1669- or socket and extended bit -T10107-

Removing
l  Gearbox is installed.
  WARNING
Follow the instructions below exactly to avoid damaging polygon bearings of flange shaft.
–  Remove drive shaft → Rep. gr.40.
–  Place drip tray under gearbox.
–  Remove bolt for right flange shaft using hexagon key -V.A.G 1669- or socket and extended bit -T10107-.
   
–  Bolt puller -T10037- to right flange shaft.
–  Align puller parallel to flange using knurled knob -T10037/1- and lower support -A-.
–  Pull out flange shaft.
–  Pry seal out using assembly lever.
Installing
–  Half-fill space between sealing lip and dust lip with sealing grease -G 052 128-.
  N39-0796
–  Drive in new seal to stop, being careful not to cant seal.
–  Drive in flange shaft carefully. Turn flange shaft when doing so.
–  Secure flange shaft using countersunk bolt and tighten to 30 Nm.
–  Install drive shaft → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. gr.40.
–  Attach drive shaft heat shield to bevel box.
–  Check oil level in bevel box → Chapter.
–  Install noise insulation, if fitted.
Specified torques
  N39-0764
Heat shield for drive shaft to bevel box25 Nm
