  Note
From 01/2006 engines with engine codes BVX, BVY, BVZ and AXW have a split toothed belt guard. Identification: top part of toothed belt guard has no cover → Item and the toothed belt guard is split in the area of the engine bracket.
Removing seal:
Vehicles with split toothed belt guard:

–  Remove bolts -arrows- and remove toothed belt guard upwards.
–  Loosen tensioning roller and remove toothed belt from camshaft toothed belt pulley.
Vehicles without split toothed belt guard
–  Remove toothed belt:
Golf without split toothed belt guard (BLR, BLX, BLY, BVX, BVY, BVZ) → Chapter.
Touran without split toothed belt guard (BLR, BLX, BLY, BVX, BVY, BVZ) → Chapter.
Continuation for all vehicles:
  A13-0558
–  Loosen securing bolt for camshaft pulley and unscrew approx. 10 mm (use counterhold tool -3036-).
  A13-0381
–  Pull camshaft sprocket off with two arm puller -T40001-, claw -T40001/6- and claw -T40001/7-. Two arm puller -T40001- is supported on securing bolt -arrow-.
–  Remove securing bolt and camshaft pulley.
  N15-10476
–  To guide seal extractor, screw adapter -2085/2- into camshaft to stop by hand.
–  Screw inner part of oil seal extractor -2085- two turns (approx. 3 mm) out of outer part and lock using knurled screw.
  A15-0770
–  Lubricate threaded head of oil seal extractor -2085-, place it in position and, exerting firm pressure, screw it into oil seal as far as possible.
–  Loosen knurled screw and turn inner part against camshaft until oil seal is pulled out.
Installing seal:
–  Remove oil residue from camshaft journal using a clean cloth.
–  Tape over groove in taper of camshaft (e.g. with Sellotape).
–  Carefully push dry seal onto camshaft journal.
  A15-0140
–  Press in oil seal to stop using fitting sleeve -T10071-, thrust piece -T10353- and a washer -arrow-. To do this, use screw -T10071/4-.
  Note
The thrust piece -T10353- is required for the length compensation of the bolt -T10071/4-. Washers can also be used for this purpose.
–  Insert parallel key into camshaft.
  N15-10477
–  Install camshaft sprocket. To tighten screw, hold camshaft using counterhold tool -3036-. Specified torque → Chapter.
  Note
t  When turning the camshaft, the pistons must not be at TDC. This could otherwise result in damage to valves and pistons.
t  Ensure the parallel key is correctly seated.
Vehicles with split toothed belt guard:
To install the toothed belt, fit support bracket -10-222A- and remove engine bracket and lower toothed belt guard.
Continuation for all vehicles:
–  Install toothed belt:
   Engine code AXW → Chapter
Golf without split toothed belt guard (BLR, BLX, BLY, BVX, BVY, BVZ) → Chapter.
Touran without split toothed belt guard (BLR, BLX, BLY, BVX, BVY, BVZ) → Chapter.
Golf with split toothed belt guard (BVX, BVY, BVZ) → Chapter
Touran with split toothed belt guard (BVX, BVY, BVZ) → Chapter
–  Install poly V-belt → Chapter.
Further assembly is basically the reverse of the dismantling procedure.
