Removing and installing driver/front passenger curtain airbag, 4-door, (Golf 2009 ►)
Removing and installing driver/front passenger curtain airbag, 4-door, (Golf 2009 ►)
  Note
Removal and installation are described for the left vehicle side. Follow same instructions for the right side as appropriate.
Removing
  WARNING
t  Observe the general safety regulations when working on airbag, belt tensioner and battery isolator units (pyrotechnic components) → Chapter
t  Observe the special instructions for curtain airbag modules → Chapter.
–  Disconnect vehicle battery → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
–  Remove moulded headliner → Chapter.
   
–  Position straight O-ring pliers in openings of clip -1-, press pliers together and carefully release clip from opening in body.
  Note
The clips are concealed by tabs. Before removing the clips, fold up the tabs.
–  Release clips -2-, -3- and -4- from body as described.
  WARNING
If one of the four clips is damaged on removal, the curtain airbag must be renewed!
  WARNING
Electrostatic discharges may result in unintentional triggering of airbag. Therefore, the mechanic must electrostatically discharge him/herself before disconnecting the igniter and earth wires. This can be done by briefly touching the body or striker plate of the door.
–  Release connector locking device and pull connector -5- off curtain airbag

   
–  Remove bolt -1- (4.5 Nm). Alternatively curtain airbag can be secured at this position using a metal eye and a locking pin.
–  Remove bolts -2- and -3- (3 Nm).
–  Detach curtain airbag from mountings in vehicle body.

Installing
  Caution
A visible line is located on the curtain airbag, this line must be straight once bag is installed. Twisting is not permissible.
–  Install in reverse order of removal.
–  Switch ignition on.
  WARNING
Ensure that nobody is in vehicle.
–  Reconnect vehicle battery → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
