Aligning dash panel in vehicle, Golf 2004 ►

The height of the dash panel is set correctly when no offset exists between the gap of the door trim -arrow A- and dash panel -arrow B-. The difference in height between the upper edge of the door trim -1- and the upper edge of the dash panel -2- is 3 mm ±1 mm. There is no requirement to adjust the position of the dash panel to increase the gap between the door trim and the dash panel -arrows C-.

–  Open door and remove bolt -1- (2 Nm). –  Hold a respectively thick cloth on the left side of the dash panel and close the door. This action pushes the door trim closer to the door and the gap between the door trim and the dash panel increases respectively. A realignment of the dash panel is therefore not necessary.   Note Apply the same procedures for the front passenger side. Align dash panel. The dash panel can be aligned for height and at right angles to the direction of travel. –  Remove wiper arms → Rep. gr.92. –  Remove plenum chamber cover → Rep. gr.64. –  Remove dash panel end trim → Chapter.

–  Prise cover -1- out of mounting using removal wedge -3409-.

–	Unclip cover -1- from trim using a small screwdriver.

–	Unscrew bolt -2- (1.5 Nm).

–	Pull left footwell trim -3- out of mountings.

Removal of right footwell trim is identical.

–  Loosen bolt -1- in plenum chamber by 2 to 3 turns.

–	Loosen the two bolts under the heating/air conditioning controls -1- 2 to 3 turns (9 Nm).

Other bolts in this area need not be loosened.

–	Loosen the four bolts -2- in the area of the tunnel 2 to 3 turns (20 Nm).

–	On the right side loosen the nut -1- 2 to 3 turns (18 Nm).

–	On the left side loosen the fuse holder securing bolt -3- (2 Nm).

–	Loosen the two nuts -4- 2 to 3 turns (18 Nm).

Align height of dash panel.

t	The height of the dash panel is set using eccentric bolts -2- and -5-.

t	In the default position, the longer surface of the eccentric faces the outside of the vehicle.

t	The eccentric must not be turned further than ±90° from the default position.

–	Set the required height of the dash panel using eccentric bolts -2- and -5-.

Aligning dash panel laterally.

–	Slide dash panel to desired position.

–  After aligning in vehicle, tighten dash panel bolts to specified torque. Installation of parts is carried out in reverse order of removal.
