Removing
  Note
t  The refrigerant must be extracted beforehand, e.g. with air conditioner service station -VAS 6007A-.
t  The previously used air conditioner service stations can still be used ⇒ Volkswagen Workshop Equipment catalogue.
t  To prevent the intrusion of moisture, all components of the refrigerant circuit which have been opened must be sealed with suitable plugs.
t  Connecting pipe from charge air cooler must be removed on some vehicles → Rep. gr.21.
Applies only to vehicles with a heat shield before the expansion valve.
   
Left-hand drive
–  Unscrew nut -1- (6 ± 0.9 Nm).
–  Release clips -2- and remove heat shield -3-.

Right-hand drive
–  Detach circlips -1- and clip -2- and remove heat shield -3-.

2 - Refrigerant lines on expansion valve
3 - O-ring
q   13.7 mm; 2.5 mm
4 - Expansion valve
q   Removing:
–  Extract refrigerant, e.g. with air conditioner service station -VAS 6007A-.
  WARNING
Danger of freezing injuries.
If refrigerant circuit has not been evacuated, refrigerant will escape.
Extract refrigerant before opening refrigerant circuit. If the refrigerant circuit is not opened within 10 minutes after it has been evacuated, pressure may develop in coolant circuit due to re-evaporation. Extract refrigerant again.
–  Unscrew bolts-1- and pull out refrigerant lines -2- from expansion valve.
–  Unscrew bolts -8- and remove expansion valve -4-.
5 - O-ring
q   14 mm; 1.82 mm
q   Moisten with refrigerant oil when installing.
6 - O-ring
q   10.8 mm; 1.82 mm
q   Moisten with refrigerant oil when installing.
7 - O-ring
q   9.5 mm; 2.5 mm
8 - Socket head combi-bolt
q   5 Nm
