Filling, bleeding fuel system |
Caution After installation, the high pressure pump must be filled with fuel before the engine is started the 1st time (the pump must NOT be allowed to run while still empty). |
|
Note t
| When installing the high-pressure pump, it is essential to ensure that no dirt enters the fuel system. |
t
| Only remove sealing plugs immediately prior to installation of fuel lines. |
t
| The bleeding procedure is necessary after any work on the fuel supply system. (Fuel pump -G 6 -, fuel lines, fuel filter) |
l
| There must be sufficient fuel in the tank. |
l
| Temperature of fuel system ≥ 15 °C |
l
| Temperature of fuel ≥ 15 °C |
To bleed/fill the fuel system, it is necessary to meet these conditions. |
Special tools and workshop equipment required |
t
| Vehicle diagnostic tester |
Proceed as follows to fill high-pressure pump/fuel system with fuel: |
–
| Connect vehicle diagnostic tester. |
–
| The function „Fuel pump activation (Filling/bleeding fuel system)“ in Guided functions. |
The bleeding procedure will now run for 180 seconds. |
Note There could still be air bubbles in the fuel system after the bleeding procedure. |
–
| Start engine and perform visual check of fuel system for leaks. |
Caution Do not prolong attempted starting for longer than 15 seconds. If engine does not start, repeat bleed operation a second time. |
|
–
| After filling the fuel system and successfully starting the engine, allow it to run for a few minutes at a moderate speed. Switch engine off. |
–
| Check fuel system for leaks. |
–
| Read event memory and erase stored event entry if necessary. |
–
| Then road test the vehicle over a distance greater than 20 km with at least one full acceleration. Then check high-pressure part of fuel system again for leakage. |
Note If there is any air left in the fuel system, the engine may switch to the backup mode ('emergency running' mode) during the road test. Switch off the engine and erase the fault memory. Then continue road test. |
