Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  10 mm jointed spanner -3185-
t  Refractometer -T10007-
t  Allen key, long reach -T10058-
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331/-
t  Drip tray for workshop hoist -VAS 6208-
t  Hose clip pliers -VAS 6340-

Removing
  Note
Renew gaskets and seals.
–  Drain coolant → Chapter.
–  Remove throttle valve module -J338- → Chapter.
–  Pull coolant hose off connection.
   
–  Loosen securing bolts -4- of connection -3- using T-bar and socket 10 mm -3185- and remove using Allen key, long reach -T10058- and remove connection -3- together with thermostat -1-.
–  Turn thermostat -1- 90° anticlockwise and remove from connection -3-.
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order. When installing, note the following:
–  Moisten new O-ring -2- with coolant.
–  Insert thermostat -1- in connection -3- and turn 90° clockwise.
  Note
The brace on the thermostat must be almost vertical.
–  Fit connection -3- with thermostat -1- into cylinder block.
  N19-10003
–  Tighten securing bolts -4- using T-bar and 10 mm socket -3185-. Specified torque: 15 Nm
–  Replenish coolant → Chapter.
