Removing and installing particulate filter Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Lambda probe open ring spanner set -3337-

t  Ratchet wrench 13 mm -T10384-

t  Tool set -T10395-

t  Transportation lock -T10404- t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331- Removing –  Remove engine cover panel → Chapter. Golf, Golf Plus, Tiguan, Touran, Eos –  Separate connectors. t  -2-Exhaust gas temperature sender 4 -G648-

t  -3-Lambda probe -G39- Passat, CC

–  Disconnect connector -1- for exhaust gas temperature sender 3 -G495- and connector -3- for Lambda probe -G39-. Continuation for all vehicles –  Open heat protection mat on the cables and guide cable out of bracket. –  Remove Lambda probe -G39--3- and exhaust gas temperature sender 3 -G495--1-.

–  Loosen bolt -2- and remove clamp. –  Open clamp of differential pressure line on particulate filter and pull differential pressure line.

–  Undo and remove bolt -1- in upper bracket of particulate filter. –  Remove noise insulation → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. gr.66.

–  Unscrew bolts (if any) -arrows- and remove heat shield for right drive shaft. Passat, CC

–  Disconnect connector for exhaust gas temperature sender 4 -G648-. Continuation for all vehicles

–  Unscrew exhaust gas temperature sender 4 -G648--item 1- from exhaust pipe downstream of particulate filter.   Caution Avoid damage to the flexible joint. Secure decoupling element.

Transportation lock -T10404--arrow-

–  Undo clamping sleeve nuts -1- and push clamping sleeve towards rear. –  Unscrew nuts -arrows- and remove tunnel bridge at front.

–  Unscrew nuts -1- and -2- remove rear tunnel bridge -arrows-.

–  Remove bolts -arrows- of bracket. –  Remove particulate filter bracket. More info for vehicles with front-wheel drive → Anchor. More info for vehicles with four-wheel drive → Anchor. Front-wheel drive vehicles

–  Unscrew securing nuts -1- above particulate filter bracket using ratchet wrench -T10384-; unscrew nuts -2-.

–  Unscrew bolts -2- and -3- for pendulum support.

–  Push engine/gearbox assembly with engine support device -3300 A- forwards by measurement -a-. l  Dimension -a- = 35 mm –  Remove particulate filter and turn it until exhaust pipe hangs downwards. –  Unmount rear part of exhaust system at rubber mountings. –  Push rear part of exhaust system as far to the front and downwards as possible.

–  Unscrew nuts -arrows- from underbody cover. –  Unscrew clamping washers -2- and -3-. –  Guide heat shield -1- for transmission tunnel along exhaust pipes and remove.

–  Remove particulate filter by turning it 180° around its own axis through the tunnel. Vehicles with four-wheel drive –  Remove subframe → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. gr.40. –  Unscrew right drive shaft from bevel box → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. gr.40.

–  Unscrew securing nuts -1- above particulate filter bracket using ratchet wrench -T10384-; unscrew nuts -2-. –  Remove particulate filter downwards. Installing l  Specified torques for particulate filter → Chapter. l  Specified torques for pendulum support → Chapter l  Specified torque for bolts for drive shaft heat shield → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. gr.40. l  Specified torque for tunnel bridges → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. gr.66. Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:   Note t  Renew seals, self-locking nuts and clip for particulate filter. t  Fit cable tie in same place when installing.

–  Observe sequence when installing particulate filter:

1.	position particulate filter on turbocharger and secure clip -1- loosely
2.	screw bolts -2 … 5- in loosely by hand l  particulate filter and retainer must be able to move
3.	tighten clip -1-
4.	Tighten bolts -2- and -5-
5.	Tighten bolts -3- and -4-

–  Installing exhaust temperature sender 4 -G648- → Chapter. Vehicles with four-wheel drive: –  Screw right drive shaft to bevel box → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. gr.40. –  Install subframe together with steering gear → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. gr.40. Continuation for all vehicles: –  Aligning exhaust system free of stress → Chapter. –  Install Lambda probe -G39- together with lambda probe heater -Z19- → Chapter. –  Install pressure differential sender -G505- → Chapter. –  After renewing particulate filter, carry out adaptation in „guided functions“ operating mode → Vehicle diagnostic tester.
