Filling/bleeding fuel system
Filling/bleeding fuel system
  Caution
Risk of irreparable damage to high-pressure pump if allowed to run dry.
The high-pressure pump must first be filled with fuel before the engine is started. The high-pressure pump must not be allowed to run while still empty.
  Note
t  When installing the high-pressure pump, it is essential to ensure that no dirt enters the fuel system.
t  Only remove sealing plugs immediately prior to installation of fuel lines.
t  There must be sufficient fuel in the tank.
Proceed as follows to fill high-pressure pump with fuel.
–  Switch ignition on.
–  Connect vehicle diagnosis tester and perform the guided function „Bleeding fuel system“ or „Filling/bleeding fuel system“ depending on software version.
  Note
The fuel pumps will now be activated for a total of 3 minutes.
–  Start engine.
–  After filling fuel system, leave the engine running at moderate speed for a few minutes and then switch it off again.
–  Check fuel system for leaks.
–  Read out event memory and, if necessary, delete event memory entry → Vehicle diagnostic tester.
–  Road-test vehicle for more than 20 km. Accelerate with full throttle at least once. Then check high-pressure part of fuel system again for leakage.
  Note
If there is any air left in the fuel system, the engine may switch to the backup mode ('emergency running' mode) during the road test. Switch off engine and clear event memory. Then continue road test.
–  Read event memory again.
