Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Refractometer -T10007-
t  Drip tray -VAS 6208-
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331/-
t  Hose clip pliers -VAS 6362-
t  Jointed wrench 10 mm -VAS 3185-
t  Socket -T10058-

Removing
  WARNING
Steam may escape when expansion tank is opened. Wear eye protection and protective clothing to avoid eye injuries and scalding. Cover cap with cloth and open carefully.
–  Drain coolant → Chapter.
–  Pull coolant hose off connection.
   
–  Loosen securing bolts -4- using T-bar and socket, 10 mm -VAS 3185- and unscrew with Allen key extension, 5 mm -T10058- and remove connection -3-.
–  Pull thermostat out of cylinder block using pliers.
Installing
–  Moisten new O-ring with coolant.
–  Insert thermostat -1- with O-ring -2- into cylinder block.
  Note
The thermostat brace must be vertical.
–  Fit connection -3- and tighten securing bolts -4- using T-bar and socket, 10 mm -VAS 3185-. Specified torque: 15 Nm.
–  Connect coolant hose onto connection and fill coolant system with coolant → Chapter.
