Emptying fuel tank when fuel pump is intact

Special tools and workshop equipment required

t	Wrench -T10202-

t	Torque wrench -V.A.G 1332-

t	Fuel extractor -VAS 5190-

t  Vehicle diagnosis tester.

t  Adapter for fuel extraction -VAS 5190 /3 -   Note

If the fuel extraction unit -VAS 5190- is still fitted with the extraction hose with a fixed tip, the extraction hose must be replaced with the version with a screwed tip. –  Unscrew tip -1- from extraction hose of fuel extraction unit -VAS 5190-. –  Screw fuel extraction adapter -VAS 5190 /2- from fuel extraction adapter set -VAS 5190 /10- onto extraction hose.   WARNING Fuel supply line may be pressurised. Wear eye protection and protective clothing to avoid possible injury and skin contact. Before loosening hose connections, wrap a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully pulling hose off connection.

–  Pull off supply line -arrow- and catch escaping fuel with a cloth. Separate connectors → Chapter.

–  Connect fuel extractor -VAS 5190- with adapter for fuel extractor -VAS 5190 /3 - to fuel supply line.

–  Separate connector -A- to supplementary fuel pump -V393- or fuel pump 2 -V277- (inline electronic fuel pump). –  Connect vehicle diagnosis tester. –  Switch on ignition. –  Remove filler cap from fuel tank filler neck. –  Connect vehicle diagnosis tester and perform the guided function „Emptying fuel system“.   Note The fuel pumps are now activated. The vehicle diagnosis tester shows the progress of the drainage. –  Open shut-off tap on fuel extractor -VAS 5190- until fuel tank is emptied.   Note t  Push-on couplings must »audibly« engage when locking. t  Take note of colour coding when fitting the push-on couplings → Anchor. t  Ensure push-on coupling is secured properly by pulling. t  Separate push-on couplings → Chapter.
