Removing and installing steering column electronics control unitJ527
Removing and installing steering column electronics control unit -J527-
  Note
t  After new control unit has been installed, it must be coded → Chapter.
t  In the event of faults in the steering column switch, the coding of the control unit must be checked → Chapter.
Removing:
  Caution
The removal and installation of individual components of the steering column switch must be performed in a specified sequence → Chapter.
–  Disconnect battery → Chapter.
  WARNING
t  Danger of the triggering of the airbag!
t  Improper action on airbag unit may result in the triggering of the airbag!
t  Observe safety precautions when working on airbag → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.69.
–  Remove steering wheel → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.69.
–  Remove steering column trim → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.68.
   
–  Remove bolt -1-.
–  Push a suitable wire -2- into the hole on the steering column electronics control unit -J527- approx. 45 mm deep -arrow 1-, causing the locking lug -arrow 2- on the front fastener to disengage.

–  Using a suitable screwdriver, push the locking lug of the rear fastener -arrow A- backwards towards the steering wheel in order to release the fastener.
–  Carefully pull the steering column electronics control unit -J527- downwards off the steering column switch.
  Note
When pulling off, ensure that steering column electronics control unit -J527- is pulled down straight and is not canted.

–  Unclip -arrow A- connector -1- and disconnect from steering column electronics control unit -J527-.
–  Pull locking bar -3- out of connector -2-.
–  Unclip -arrow B- connector -2- and disconnect from steering column electronics control unit -J527-.
Installing:
Installation is carried out in the reverse order. When installing observe the following:
  Note
When fitting the connector, ensure that none of the pins are bent and that the connector engages audibly.
