Replace Fuel Hose and Clamps

Dear Volkswagen Owner:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Volkswagen has determined that a
defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in some 1988 through 1992 model Volkswagen Golf and Jetta vehicles equipped with Digifant Engine
Management System. Our records show that your car is one of the vehicles involved in this recall action.

Defect Description 
We have found that the hose material of a fuel hose attached to the fuel distribution rail located in the engine compartment may settle more than the
existing hose clamp can compensate for. This could lead to fuel seepage at the hose connection. Escaping fuel could come in contact with hot engine
components and possibly cause an engine compartment fire.

Remedy 
Your authorized Volkswagen retailer will install a new fuel hose and new fuel hose clamps. If a visual check by the service technician determines that the
new parts are already installed, no further repairs are necessary.

Your Action 
We ask that you contact the Service Department of your authorized Volkswagen retail facility to schedule an appointment as soon as possible. Please
present the enclosed campaign authorization form when you arrive. The necessary work will take approximately one halt hour and will, of course, be free
of charge. Necessary instructions and parts are available at Volkswagen retail facilities.

Precaution 
If you smell fuel vapors originating in the vicinity of the engine before your car has been repaired, please contact your nearest authorized Volkswagen
retail facility immediately.
