Voltage Supply Open Circuit, Followup Procedure
All values learned by the Motronic Engine Control Module (ECM) -J220- and the basic setting values as well as the readiness code will be erased if the
voltage supply is interrupted. Therefore, depending upon the vehicle mileage it can lead to serious engine running problems.
Special tools, workshop equipment, testers, measuring instruments and auxiliary items required
-
VAG 1551 Scan tool (or VAG 1552) with VAG 1551/3 adapter cable
NOTE: All functions which could previously be performed with VAG 1551/1552 can also be performed with the VAS 5051.
Work sequence
Perform the following operations after interrupting voltage supply:
-
Switch ignition on for at least 10 seconds.
-
Switch off ignition.
-
Erase learned values and adapt Motronic Engine Control Module (ECM) -J220- again.
-
Perform idle speed check. Refer to "Computers and Control Systems/Testing and Inspection"
See: Powertrain Management/Computers and Control Systems/Testing and Inspection
NOTE: During idle speed check the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Regulator Valve -N80- and the air conditioner compressor are
switched off and the Oxygen Sensor control learning procedure is initiated.
-
Generate readiness code. Refer to "Monitors, Trips and/or Drive Cycle (Readiness Codes)/Generating Readiness Code".
See: Powertrain Management/Computers and Control Systems/Testing and Inspection/Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes
-
Perform a longer road test until the poor driving characteristics are eliminated.
Observe the valid safety precautions when carrying out a road test. Refer to "Fuel Delivery and Air Induction/Service Precautions",
See: Powertrain Management/Fuel Delivery and Air Induction/Service Precautions/Technician Safety Information
During the road test the following operating conditions must be fulfilled:
-
Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) must exceed 80 degrees C.
-
When the temperature is reached, the operating conditions
Idling
Part throttle
Full throttle
Overrun
must be obtained several times.
-
At full throttle the speed must exceed 3500 rpm.
Not Available For Generic Scan Tool
