EGR Valve Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection
EGR Potentiometer G212 / EGR Vacuum Regulator Solenoid Valve N18 , Checking
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Hand multimeter V.A.G 1526 or Multimeter V.A.G 1715
-
Test adapter kit V.A.G 1594
-
Wiring diagram
Test conditions:
-
The respective fuses of Diesel Direct Fuel Injection (DFI) Engine Control Module (ECM) J248 must be OK.
-
Battery voltage at least 11.5 V.
-
All electrical consumers (e.g. lights and rear window defroster) switched off.
-
Vehicles with automatic transmission: Selector lever in position "P" or "N".
-
Air conditioning system switched off.
-
Ground (GND) connection between engine and body OK.
Checking voltage supply:
-
Disconnect 6-pin connector - arrow - to EGR Potentiometer G212 / EGR Vacuum Regulator Solenoid Valve N18.
-
Switch ignition on.
-
Measure voltage supply between connector terminals 1 +3:
Specification: about 5 V
If specification is not obtained:
-
Replace Diesel Direct Fuel Injection (DFI) Engine Control Module (ECM) J248.

Checking wiring:

Connect test box to Diesel Direct Fuel Injection (DFI) Engine Control Module (ECM) J248 wiring harness. See: Computers and Control

Connect adapter cable V.A.G 1598/39-1 to test box V.A.G 1598/42.
