Fluid - A/T: Service and Repair
ATF, Draining and Filling
ATF, draining and filling, 09G, 6 Spd. A/T

Remove sound insulation.

Position drip tray V.A.G1306 underneath.

Remove ATF control plug - arrow1 -.
-
Remove overflow pipe through level hole.
-
In addition, remove drain plug - arrow2 - in transmission housing.
-
Drain ATF.
Note: Do not start the engine or tow the vehicle without ATF in the system.

Install overflow pipe and tighten.

Fit new seal on drain plug - arrow 2 - and tighten plug to 40 Nm.
CAUTION:
^
When working in the vicinity of the radiator, ensure sufficient clearance is left for the radiator coolant fan.

The radiator coolant fan can switch on without prior warning.

Pry off plug securing cap - arrow - with a screwdriver. Cap locking device will be damaged when removing cap. Always replace cap.

Pull plug out of filler pipe.

Fill with ATF using ATF filler tool V.A.G1924 until ATF leaks out of overflow pipe and runs out of level hole.

Move selector lever to position "P".

Start engine.
-
Continue to fill with ATF using ATF filler tool V.A.G1924 until ATF runs out of level hole again.

Thread in ATF control plug with a new seal.

Depress brake pedal.

With vehicle stationary, move selector lever through all positions, and hold in each position for at least 3 seconds.

Move selector lever to position "P".

Check ATF level and top up as necessary go to ATF level, checking and topping up. See: Transmission and Drivetrain/Automatic
