Removing undamaged rear window
–  Unscrew rear wiper arm (hexagon nut M8 = 15 Nm).
–  Release sealing lip around circumference of window flange and spray with cleaning solution -D 009 401 04- (as substitute for lubricant).
   
–  Guide trimming needle -2- with help of handle -1- under sealing lip and puncture through adhesive bead (use side areas).
Trimming needle must be guided as close to window as possible (do not damage heater element).
–  Unscrew handle and pass cutting cord through eye of needle.
–  Pull one end of cutting cord inside (use pliers and gloves).

–  Guide cutting thread in between lip and window flange with help of tube -3- (if the cutting thread should break, then cutting wire can also be used).
–  If gaps are too small, guide cutting cord on outside and push under lip using plastic wedge.

–  Place cutting cord around rear window as shown.
  Note
Press in cutting cord deep enough to prevent damage to the sealing lip and/or spacing lip.
–  Attach outer cord end to window wiper axis, or pull cord end inwards and counterhold using pulling handle -V.A.G 1351/1-.
–  Pull off connections for heated rear window and press connecting tabs onto window.

GL and GT only
–  Unclip left and right trim parallel to window.

–  Cover inner window flange -3- with fabric-strengthened adhesive tape (only if using cutting wire).
–  Secure inner end of thread on reel device.

–  Set reel device -V.A.G 1654- (from -V.A.G 1474 A-) to position 1.
–  Move reel device according to the particular position required and cut window free.
–  Use plastic wedge to press cutting cord against window glass while cutting in order to create clearance at window flange.
