Passat (B3)

Removing
–  Disconnect battery earth strap → Rep. Gr.27.
–  Remove centre console → Chapter.
–  Remove footwell vents → Heating, air conditioning; Rep. Gr.80
–  If necessary, cut into floor covering and insulation mat near control unit bracket.
  WARNING
Electrostatic discharges may result in unintentional triggering of the airbag. Therefore, the mechanic must electrostatically discharge himself/herself before disconnecting the igniter and earth wires. This can be done by briefly touching the body or striker plate of the door.
   
–  Swivel bar -2- in opposite -direction of arrow- and pull connector -3- out of the control unit -1-.
–  Unscrew nuts -4- and pull control unit off studs (nut -4- = 20 Nm).
