Airbag control unit -J234- can be found behind console on tunnel. It is equipped with a fault memory. Connection for self-diagnosis can be found on right next to ignition switch. |
Control unit detects faults in airbag system and stores them in a non-volatile memory. |
When ignition is switched on, airbag warning lamp -K75- lights up for approx. 4 seconds and then goes out again. If warning lamp flashes for a further 12 seconds, this indicates that front passenger airbag is deactivated (disabled). |

| If airbag warning lamp -K75- does not go out again after approx. 4 seconds, voltage supply to airbag control unit -J234- is not OK. Interrogate fault memory → Chapter. |

| If airbag warning lamp -K75- lights up again, there is a fault. Interrogate fault memory → Chapter. |

| If airbag warning lamp -K75- flashes continuously, airbag control unit -J234- must be renewed. |
At start of fault finding, initiate self-diagnosis and interrogate stored information using fault reader -V.A.G 1551-. |
Fault information displayed makes reference via fault table with notes to possible causes of fault for purposes of targeted repairs. |
