Connecting fault reader V.A.G 1551 and selecting engine electronics control unit

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items

  • ◆ Fault reader V.A.G 1551 with cable V.A.G 1551/3

Check conditions

  • ● Battery voltage at least 11 V
  • ● Fuse 21 OK.

Work sequence

  • ‒ → Unclip cover for diagnostic connections.
  • ‒ Connect fault reader with cable V.A.G 1551/3.
  • ‒ Depending upon desired function:
    Switch on ignition
         or
    Start engine , Table "Selectable functions".

Notes:

  • ◆ Additional operating instructions can be called up with the fault reader HELP key.
  • ◆ The ⇒ key serves to advance the programme sequence.

     1 - Rapid data transfer*
     2 - Flash code output*

* Appears alternately

  • ‒ Input 1 for "Rapid data transfer".

Input address word XX
  • ‒ Input 01 for address word "Engine electronics" and confirm with Q.
 
→ The fault reader V.A.G 1551 display will show the control unit identification, e.g.:
037906024F     DIGIFANT 3.2          1672
Coding
  • ◆ 037 906 024F = Part No. of the control unit
  • ◆ DIGIFANT 3.2 = System designation and version
  • ◆ 1672 = Programme level number
  • ◆ Coding = Not used at present
 
→ Will be indicated on display:
Control unit does not answer!     HELP
  • ‒ Print-out a list of possible fault causes by pressing the HELP button.
  • ‒ After eliminating the possible fault causes, again enter address word 01 for "Engine electronics" and confirm input with Q button.
  • ‒ Press ⇒ key.
 
→ Indicated on display:
Rapid data transfer     HELP
Select function XX
  • ‒ Further measures see repair procedures.
