Checking coolant temperature sender
  • ● Engine cold
  • ‒ Connect fault reader V.A.G 1551 and select engine electronics control unit (address word 01); carry out selection with engine idling.
 
→ Indicated on display:
Rapid data transfer     HELP
Select function XX
  • ‒ Input 08 for "Read measured value block" function and confirm with Q.
 
→ Indicated on display:
Read measured value block     HELP
Input display group number XX
  • ‒ Input 01 for "Display group number" and confirm with Q.
 
→ Indicated on display:
(1...4 = Display zones)

Notes:

  • ◆ If something different is indicated on display =>fault reader operating instructions
  • ◆ If an incorrect input causes "Fault in the data transfer!" to be indicated, disconnect cable from fault reader, then reconnect and repeat work steps.
     
    → Observe coolant temperature figure in display zone 2. The temperature figure must
         increase uniformly and without interruption.

    Notes:

    • ◆ If the display on fault reader jumps by 2...5 °C, it is a control unit fault and not caused by a defective sender.
    • ◆ Open circuit is indicated by - 49.5 °C.
    • ◆ If irregular engine running occurs in certain temperature ranges and the temperature figure does not increase without interruption, the temperature signal is temporarily interrupted and the sender must be renewed.
    • ‒ Press ⇒ key.
    • ‒ In put 06 for "End output" and confirm with Q.

    If the temperature figure does not change:

    • ‒ Carry out electrical check, test step 9
      => Page 01-20 , renew coolant temperature sender (G62) if necessary, (first release pressure from cooling system).
