Erasing fault memory

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items

Test conditions

Note:

If fault memory is erased, the readiness code must be generated again .

Work sequence

‒ Connect fault reader V.A.G 1551 (V.A.G 1552) and select engine electronics control unit with the "Address word" 01. When doing this the engine must be running at idling speed.

→ Indicated on display:

Rapid data transfer HELP

Select function XX

‒ Press keys 0 and 2 for function "Interrogate fault memory" and confirm entry with Q key.

→ Press ⇒key until all faults still stored have appeared and the display reads:

Select function XX

‒ Press keys 0 and 5 for the function "Erase fault memory" and confirm entry with Q key.

→ Indicated on display:

Rapid data transfer ⇒

Fault memory is erased!

→ Indicated on display:

Select function XX

‒ Allow the engine to idle for at least 1 minute and interrogate fault memory again.

If no fault is displayed:

‒ Press keys 0 and 6 for the "End data transfer" function and confirm input with the Q key.
‒ Carry out road test of at least 10 minutes duration.
When doing this

‒ The coolant temperature must reach at least 80 °C,
‒ Briefly depress accelerator pedal fully when engine speed is above 4600 rpm.
‒ Accelerate in 4th gear from approx. 50 km/h (30 mph) for approx. 4 seconds using half throttle.

‒ Carry out a further road test and interrogate fault memory again. No faults should be shown.
