Special tools, testers and auxiliary items

  • ◆ Fault reader V.A.G 1551 with cable V.A.G 1551/3

Test conditions

  • ● Fault eliminated
  • ● Coolant temperature at least 80 °C

Note:

If fault memory is erased, the readiness code must be generated again .

Work sequence

  • ‒ Connect fault reader V.A.G 1551 (V.A.G 1552) and select engine electronics control unit with the "Address word" 01. When doing this the engine must be running at idling speed.
    (Connecting fault reader and selecting engine electronics control unit .)
 
→ Indicated on display:
Rapid data transfer     HELP
Select function XX
  • ‒ Press keys 0 and 2 for function "Interrogate fault memory" and confirm entry with Q key.
 
→ Press ⇒key until all faults still stored have appeared and the display reads:
Rapid data transfer     HELP
Select function XX
  • ‒ Press keys 0 and 5 for the function "Erase fault memory" and confirm entry with Q key.
  •  
    → Indicated on display:
    Rapid data transfer     ⇒
    Fault memory is erased!
    • ‒ Press ⇒key.
     
    → Indicated on display:
    Rapid data transfer     HELP
    Select function XX
    • ‒ Allow the engine to idle for at least 1 minute and interrogate fault memory again.

    If no fault is displayed:

    • ‒ Press keys 0 and 6 for the "End data transfer" function and confirm input with the Q key.
    • ‒ Carry out road test of at least 10 minutes duration.
      When doing this
      • ‒ The coolant temperature must reach at least 80 °C,
      • ‒ Briefly depress accelerator pedal fully when engine speed is above 4600 rpm.
      • ‒ Accelerate in 4th gear from approx. 50 km/h (30 mph) for approx. 4 seconds using half throttle.
    • ‒ Carry out a further road test and interrogate fault memory again. No faults should be shown.
