Rear Struts

Note:  Whenever replacing struts, always remove, then install one strut at a time to prevent personal injury and/or damage to vehicle. Refer to Fig. 2
to aid in removal and installation of strut. Each rear coil spring and rear shock absorber are part of a combined rear strut assembly. The strut must be
removed as a unit and disassembled to replace either the spring or the shock absorber. For information about checking shock absorbers, see
Troubleshooting.

NOTE:  To avoid unequal performance, shock absorbers, springs or complete struts should always be replaced in pairs.

Removing and Installing
A single through-bolt and self-locking nut fasten the bottom of the shock absorber strut to its attachment on the trailing arm. At the top, the strut
assembly mounting must be disconnected from inside the car. Remove the trim covering the belt retractor mechanism. See Fig. 6-1.

NOTE:  When raising the car, do not lift on any part of the suspension. The strut cannot be moved if the rear axle and trailing arms are supporting the
car.
