Fig. 6 Axle Balance Weight Locating

When servicing driveshafts, refer to Fig. 4 for component location and identification.
The surface of the axle shaft is covered with a special coating designed to prevent stress cracks from forming due to rust and abrasion.
Use caution not to damage this surface while servicing unit.

1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove axle.
3. Remove drift pin securing both halves, then remove absorber (weight).
4. Ensure axle shaft paint and friction tape on I.D. of weight are in good condition.
5. Refer to Fig. 6 position and install balance weight as follows:

c. Dimension (a) is 20.487 to 20.567 inch for right axle shaft and if equipped 10.362 to 10.442 inch for left axle shaft.

6. Reverse procedure to install, tighten to specification.
