Outer Joint

1. Remove driveshaft.
2. Remove large boot clamp, then slide boot back from joint.
3. Clean area where shaft enters joint and determine whether joint has circlip or internal snap ring.
4. On models using circlip retention of joint proceed as follows:

a. Clamp axle shaft into a suitable soft jaw vice.
b. Using suitable circlip pliers, expand and hold circlip.
c. Using a suitable soft face hammer, tap on inner race of joint to start joint off axle spline.
d. Pull and tap to remove joint from shaft, note position of dished washer and thrust washer for later assembly.
e. Remove and discard circlip.

5. On models using internal snap ring retention of joint proceed as follows:

a. Clamp axle shaft into a suitable soft jaw vice.
b. Hold joint parallel to shaft, then strike body of joint Fig. 7 with a suitable soft face hammer to unseat internal snap ring.
c. Pull and tap to remove joint from shaft, note position of dished washer and thrust washer for later assembly.
d. Remove and discard snap ring from axle shaft.

6. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:

a. Use new snap ring or circlip.
b. Clean and inspect boot and shaft splines for damage.
c. Ensure boot and joint are packed with correct quantity of a suitable CV joint grease.
