Removing

• ‒ Pull cover off frame.
• ‒ → Destroy clip (arrow 1) and pull gear lever knob off with gaiter.
• ‒ Remove rubber cover, if fitted, to do this pull frame off.
• ‒ Remove central console/gear stick housing securing nuts (arrows 2).

• ‒ Remove Lambda probe from front exhaust pipe if fitted.
• ‒ Removing front exhaust pipe.

=> Repair group 26; Removing and installing parts of exhaust system.

• ‒ Remove front heat shield.
• ‒ → Remove front cross support (arrow), below the exhaust system.

• ‒ → Unbolt rear cross support (arrows) together with rear exhaust system.
• ‒ Lower rear exhaust system carefully and support.

• ‒ → Loosen clamp (arrow) and separate the selector rod/angle finger connection.

• ‒ Lever off circlip for cable, if fitted, between selector lever and gearbox at gearbox.
• ‒ → Lever off cable, running between selector lever and gearbox, at gearbox and pull out of mounting on assembly carrier (arrows), to do this squeeze tabs together.

• ‒ → Unbolt gear stick housing from body (arrows).

• ‒ → Swing gear stick housing with selector rod down (arrow 1), when doing this guide over gearbox (arrow 2) then remove.

Installing

• ‒ → Guide selector rod -A- over assembly carrier and gearbox (direction of arrow).
• ‒ Pull gear stick housing back and turn so that the selector rod is stress-free and insert into vehicle floor.
• ‒ Secure gear stick housing.

• ‒ → Guide selector rod into clamp (arrow -1-), to do this push gearbox selector shaft inwards.
• ‒ Renew bush in cable between selector mechanism and gearbox (arrow -3-).
• ‒ Engage cable, running between selector mechanism and gearbox, into mounting on assembly carrier and push onto gearbox (arrows -2- and -3-).
• ‒ Press circlip for cable onto gearbox, if fitted.

• ‒ → Tighten rear cross support together with rear exhaust pipe (arrows) and rear heat shield securely.
• ‒ Install front heat shield.
• ‒ Installing front exhaust pipe

=> 4-Cyl. engine, Mechanics, Repair group 26

• ‒ Screw in Lambda probe if equipped for probe.
• ‒ Install front cross support under exhaust system.

• ‒ Install central console/gear stick housing securing nuts.

• ‒ Adjust gear change linkage .
• ‒ Remove rubber cover if fitted.
• ‒ Push gear stick knob onto gear stick together with cover onto stop.
• ‒ → Tension gear stick knob clamp.
• ‒ Clip cover into console.
